The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Monday called for greater cooperation from government departments and stressed the need for timely submission of Action Taken Reports (ATRs) to strengthen financial accountability.
The committee, chaired by MLA Surjeet Singh Slathia, met at the Assembly Secretariat in Srinagar to review procedures aimed at improving oversight of government expenditure and audit compliance.
Legislators across party lines attended the meeting along with senior officials from the Legislative Assembly and the office of the Auditor General.
Committee members emphasised the need for departments to submit detailed ATRs within the six-month timeline prescribed under rules and discussed measures to accelerate examination of pending audit observations.
Participants also proposed more frequent committee meetings to ensure continuous monitoring of unresolved audit paragraphs.
Slathia underscored the committee’s role in maintaining financial discipline and assured members that pending matters would be addressed in a time-bound manner.
The PAC is one of the legislature’s principal oversight bodies responsible for examining government spending and ensuring public funds are used in accordance with approved policies and procedures.
