Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta on Monday inspected the Tawi Riverfront project in Jammu and described it as a transformative initiative that could become a landmark development for the region.
Tamta reviewed ongoing works at the site alongside local legislators, Members of Parliament and senior officials of Jammu Smart City Limited and the Jammu Municipal Corporation.
Project Director Sunil Thusoo briefed the minister on progress achieved so far and outlined future development plans.
Addressing officials and stakeholders, Tamta said the project had already contributed to flood-control efforts and possessed significant potential for tourism and recreational activities.
“It will be a landmark project, a historic gift to the region,” he said.
The minister also outlined the Centre’s broader vision of strengthening road connectivity across Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting investments in highway infrastructure through difficult mountainous terrain.
He said recent highway projects had significantly reduced travel time between Jammu and Srinagar, helping improve regional connectivity and economic integration.
