School bus plunges into gorge in Budgam

A school bus driver died and two schoolgirls were injured on Friday after a bus carrying students plunged into a gorge in the Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, officials said.
The accident occurred in the Negoo Jabbad area of Brenwar when a bus belonging to IPTS School, Khansahib, reportedly lost control and fell into a deep gorge.
The driver, identified as Shahid Ahmad Lone of Kachwari in Khansahib, died at the scene, officials said.
The injured students were identified as sisters Zeenat-ul-Islam and Ifra Rashid, daughters of Abdul Rashid Gosi from Check-e-Quds in Khansahib.
Rescue teams, police personnel, and local residents rushed to the site and evacuated the injured girls, who were initially taken to Sub-District Hospital Chadoora before being referred to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment.
Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Aamir Khan and Senior Superintendent of Police Budgam Hariprasad K K visited the hospital and reviewed the treatment being provided to the injured students.
Doctors informed the officials that both girls were in stable condition and recovering, according to the district administration.
Khan directed hospital authorities to ensure that the injured students receive all necessary medical care and support during their recovery.
“The district administration is closely monitoring the situation,” Khan said, adding that all required assistance was being extended to the children and their families.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, officials said.
