US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that a proposed agreement between Washington and Tehran aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons could be signed within days, describing it as a breakthrough that could help stabilise the wider Middle East.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France, Trump said the agreement could be finalised “tomorrow, maybe the next day”, although details of the proposed accord have not been publicly released.

Trump said Iran had agreed that it would neither develop nor obtain a nuclear weapon, adding that the wording was intended to prevent Tehran from acquiring such capabilities through domestic production or external sources.

The US president said he hoped the agreement would serve as a foundation for broader diplomatic progress across the region.

He suggested that the deal could contribute to wider peace efforts in the Middle East, while acknowledging that conflicts involving groups such as Hezbollah and broader regional disputes would require further negotiations.

Asked about Israel, Trump described Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “a good man” but suggested Israel could adopt a less aggressive approach in its dealings with Hezbollah.

He said Israel had been provided with a copy of the proposed agreement and described the country as a close US partner.

Trump also rejected reports that Iran could receive access to a reconstruction fund worth USD 300 billion under the deal, calling such claims inaccurate.

He said, however, that Iran could benefit economically if it complied with the agreement and pursued a constructive path.

At the same time, Trump warned that Washington retained military options should Tehran fail to honour its commitments.

The White House has said reports circulating about the contents of the proposed agreement do not accurately reflect the final text, which remains under negotiation.
