Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) conducted searches at five locations across four districts of Kashmir on Saturday as part of an investigation into the alleged dissemination of unlawful and extremist material, officials said.
The searches were carried out in Baramulla, Anantnag, Shopian and Bandipora in connection with FIR No 03/2023 registered at Police Station CIK, Srinagar, under Sections 505 and 153-A of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 13 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Officials said the searches were conducted under warrants issued by a competent court.
Electronic devices, digital storage media and other material suspected of being relevant to the investigation were recovered and seized in the presence of independent witnesses, they said.
The seized material is being subjected to forensic examination to determine the nature of the digital content and establish its origin and possible dissemination channels.
In a separate action arising from scrutiny of social media activity, CIK identified Siraj Nabi Parray, a resident of Archanderhama in Magam, Budgam, as a suspect allegedly operating an account used to disseminate material the agency described as radical and potentially extremist.
Investigators said they found posts, images and other digital material that, in their assessment, contained radical and anti-national themes.
According to the agency, the material included what it described as radical narratives, glorification and projection of individuals associated with terrorism, extremist viewpoints and content that could potentially influence or radicalise vulnerable users.
Parray was produced before an Executive Magistrate First Class, where proceedings under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita were initiated.
The magistrate subsequently ordered his judicial custody. He was lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar, for the period August 8 to August 17, 2026.
Further examination of the digital devices and associated social media activity is underway, officials said.
Investigators are examining the sources of the material, how it was disseminated, other associated social media accounts and contacts, and any potential links that could require further investigation.
The searches form part of continued scrutiny by security agencies of online activity in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly content suspected of promoting extremist narratives, glorifying terrorism or encouraging radicalisation.
The investigation linked to the 2023 FIR remains ongoing, with forensic analysis of the seized electronic material expected to provide investigators with further evidence and leads.
CIK advised parents and young social media users to exercise caution online and avoid sharing or forwarding content that glorifies terrorism, promotes extremist ideology, encourages violence or hatred, or attempts to radicalise users.
Users were also advised not to engage with suspicious accounts or unknown individuals circulating such material.
