Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired the first cabinet meeting after expanding his government on Tuesday, with the allocation of portfolios to four newly inducted ministers emerging as a key issue.

The meeting at the civil secretariat in Srinagar took place hours after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha administered the oath of office and secrecy to Ali Mohammad Sagar, Saifullah Mir, Shamim Firdous and Altaf Ahmad Wani.

Portfolio allocations are expected to define the new ministers’ responsibilities and redistribute departments among members of the Council of Ministers.

An official announcement on the allocations was awaited.

The cabinet was also expected to discuss governance and administrative priorities following the reshuffle.
