Strong winds accompanied by overnight rain damaged rooftops and disrupted power infrastructure in parts of north Kashmir, including Sopore in Baramulla district, officials and local residents said on Thursday.
In the Seelo area of Sopore, gusty winds ripped off the tin roof of a residential house belonging to Mohammad Ishaq during Wednesday night’s storm, scattering tin sheets and wooden debris into nearby fields, residents said.
The windstorm triggered panic in the area as roofs, electric wires and trees shook violently during the night, eyewitnesses said.
No casualties or injuries were reported, though the affected family suffered substantial property damage.
The storm was part of a wider spell of adverse weather that affected several areas of north Kashmir overnight.
Residents appealed to the administration to assess the losses and provide relief to affected families, saying sudden weather disturbances in recent weeks had caused difficulties, particularly in rural areas.
Officials and locals also reported damage to rooftops, orchards and electricity infrastructure in other parts of north Kashmir before the storm subsided by early Thursday morning.
