Employees of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla on Tuesday staged a peaceful candlelight protest over long-pending service issues and delays in promotions.
The protest was organised by the Non-Gazetted Employees Forum of GMC Baramulla, with employees expressing solidarity with staff members working across various medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir.
The protesting employees said many staff members had not received promotions for the past seven years despite rendering continuous service, leading to frustration and affecting employee morale.
An employee participating in the protest said prolonged stagnation and lack of career progression had caused mental stress among workers.
He said employees had continued to discharge their duties sincerely despite uncertainty regarding their professional advancement.
The employee said a six-day strike launched earlier by the workers had been suspended following assurances from MLA Javid Hassan Baig.
He said that the employees hoped their demands would now be addressed in a positive and time-bound manner.
The Non-Gazetted Employees Forum said its protest movement remained peaceful and democratic and appealed to the administration to resolve the pending issues of employees at the earliest.
