Modi expressed relief that US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President J D Vance were unharmed after a gunman opened fire outside the venue of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, prompting the evacuation of senior officials.

The incident occurred around 8:34 pm at the Washington Hilton, where hundreds of journalists, politicians and guests had gathered for the high-profile event.

Trump said he called off the trip at the last minute, citing Washington’s negotiating leverage. “We have all the cards. They can call us anytime they want, but you’re not going to be making any more 18-hour flights to sit around talking about nothing,” he told Fox News.
