Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday described organ, cornea and kidney donors as “true role models and heroes” of society, urging citizens to pledge for organ donation.
Speaking at ‘Naman Diwas’, an event honouring organ donors and their families, Sinha said their contributions had transformed countless lives by restoring sight, health and hope.
“No award can truly capture the value of this gift,” he said, adding that organ donation represents one of the highest forms of selfless service.
Sinha appealed to people to consider pledging their organs, saying each individual has the potential to save lives even after death.
“In our culture, organ donation is regarded as one of the noblest acts,” he said.
He also praised the work of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO J&K) for raising awareness through outreach campaigns, hospital partnerships and training of medical professionals.
The lieutenant governor urged the organisation to expand efforts to increase registrations through community engagement across schools, workplaces and religious institutions.
Sinha noted he had registered himself for organ donation last year under the Ayushman Bharat Organ Donation Registry, calling on citizens to follow suit.
He also sought to address cultural and religious concerns, saying traditions across faiths support the idea of saving lives through donation.
“Organ donation is one of the most profound expressions of compassion,” he said, adding that it allows individuals to give life even after their own has ended.
