Srinagar, April 25

The Srinagar district administration on Saturday organised its first inter-college debate competition as part of a youth engagement and empowerment programme, officials said.

The event, held at Amar Singh College, was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo and attended by students and faculty from colleges across the city.

Labroo said the initiative was part of a year-long plan aimed at promoting academic excellence, critical thinking and youth participation in constructive activities.

He said that such programmes help steer young people away from social issues such as drug abuse while encouraging responsible civic engagement.

The debate focused on whether skill development should take priority over formal degrees, with students presenting arguments on both sides of the motion.

Winners were felicitated at the end of the event, which officials said is intended to become a recurring platform for intellectual exchange among students in the district.
