A militant was killed in an overnight gunfight in the Guruwatkalan area of Yousmarg in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, police said on Tuesday.
Budgam Senior Superintendent of Police Hariprasad K K said the operation was still underway.
“One terrorist has been killed, and the operation is on,” he said.
The Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force launched a joint search operation in the area after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants, officials said.
The forces encountered militants while moving towards a suspected hideout, triggering an exchange of fire.
One militant was killed in the gunfight, officials said. Security forces continued searches to determine whether any other militants were present.
The identity and affiliation of the slain militant were not immediately known, according to the source material.
The Army’s Chinar Corps said in a post on X that the operation followed specific intelligence inputs and that troops opened fire after militants responded to a challenge.
The operation was continuing, officials said.
