Four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, including an assistant commandant, were killed after a colleague allegedly opened fire following an altercation at a hydroelectric power project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident occurred at about 7:30 pm at the Sewa-III project in Mashka village in the Basohli area, near the Jammu and Kashmir-Himachal Pradesh border, officials said.
Head Constable Abhidesh Kumar allegedly opened fire with his service rifle after an argument with colleagues, according to preliminary information.
Four personnel suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to an NHPC hospital, where they later died, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh and constables Rafiq Ahmed and Sandeep Kumar.
Kumar was overpowered by colleagues and arrested, while the weapon allegedly used in the shooting was seized, officials said.
Senior police and CISF officers reached the site, and an investigation was launched to establish the circumstances leading to the firing.
Officials described the incident as an apparent fratricide involving CISF personnel deployed to protect the power project.
