Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday urged students to take pride in their mother tongue and cultural heritage while embracing science, technology and modern knowledge.
Speaking at a felicitation ceremony for meritorious students organised by Wadies Hindi Shiksha Samiti in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Sinha said language was closely linked to identity and cultural memory.
He said Jammu and Kashmir’s linguistic diversity reflected the wider cultural traditions of India and referred to the National Education Policy’s emphasis on early education in mother tongues and Indian languages.
Sinha also called for greater educational and employment opportunities for young people in border areas.
He identified five areas for youth empowerment: education and technology; employment and entrepreneurship; sports and culture; access to opportunities; and guidance and mentorship.
He said smart classrooms, digital libraries and skill-development programmes should reach remote villages and urged officials to expand opportunities in handicrafts, horticulture, agriculture, tourism and local industries.
“Youth should not lag behind those living in any metro city of the country,” Sinha said, calling for access to scholarships, digital platforms, training and national and international competitions.
He also urged professionals from Jammu and Kashmir to regularly mentor students in border areas.
Senior government officials, education representatives, teachers and students attended the event.
