A 23-year-old woman was killed after a scooter and an Army vehicle collided head-on in Jhangar in Rajouri district on Friday, police said.
The woman, identified as Diksha Sharma, daughter of Rabhu Dayal Sharma of Chenani in Udhampur district, was taken to Sub-District Hospital Nowshera, where she was declared dead.
Police said legal proceedings and an investigation had been initiated.
In a separate accident, four people were injured when a car collided with another vehicle in the Changam area of Chatroo in Kishtwar district.
The car skidded off the road following the collision. Residents and police reached the site and evacuated the injured to the Public Health Centre in Chatroo.
They were later referred to District Hospital Kishtwar. Doctors said all four were out of danger.
The injured were identified as Zaida Begum, wife of Ghulam Gilani; Mohammad Ismail, son of Ahamdu Ghafoor; Ahmad, son of Sattu; and Farooq Ahmad, son of Ahamdu, all residents of Singhpura in Chatroo.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident.
Meanwhile, Army personnel rescued an unidentified teenage girl after she was found floating in the Mendhar river near Balnoi on Friday afternoon.
The girl, estimated to be between 14 and 16 years old, was spotted in the river at about 1:35 pm, officials said.
Army personnel launched a rescue operation and pulled her from the water. She was unconscious when rescued and was taken to Sub-District Hospital Mendhar, where she remained under treatment.
Police have begun an investigation.
Separately, a search for a 19-year-old college student swept away in the Chenab River in Ramban entered its fourth day on Friday, with rescue teams yet to locate him.
Ravi Kumar, son of Kali Dass of Tangar in Ramban, was swept away by strong currents on September 1 while reportedly bathing near the riverbank at Maitra, officials said.
Teams from the State Disaster Response Force, police and local administration launched a search operation, joined by residents and the student’s family.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramban Varujeet Singh said the operation was continuing despite difficult conditions caused by strong currents.
Search teams were covering the area around the reported incident site and adjoining stretches of the river, but had not located Kumar.
Officials said the strong current was making the operation difficult and hazardous. Residents feared the student may have been carried downstream.
Authorities urged people to avoid entering fast-flowing rivers and other water bodies, particularly during periods of heavy flow and adverse weather.
