Fields of Time

More than cultivation, the paddy field remains a living archive of work, family, and continuity written into the land itself.

In Kashmir’s paddy fields, the season of planting becomes a quiet inheritance passed from hand to hand. Aasif Bashir sends a visual story.

Across Kashmir’s paddy fields, the season returns in shades of green, carrying with it rituals older than memory. A man stands ankle-deep in water, tending the young crop, while a child moves through the field beside him – watching, learning, belonging. In these flooded plots, labour becomes inheritance, and the rhythm of planting passes quietly between generations. More than cultivation, the paddy field remains a living archive of work, family, and continuity written into the land itself.
