Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Wednesday cast doubt on the strategic gains of the United States following its 39-day conflict with Iran, using pointed language to challenge the rationale behind the campaign.
In a post on the social media platform X, CM Omar criticized the framing of the ceasefire, particularly claims linking it to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route he noted had not been closed before hostilities began.
“So the ceasefire allows a strait to reopen, a strait that was open and freely available to everyone to use before the war started,” he wrote. “What exactly did this 39-day war achieve for the U.S.?” He appended the hashtag “UnjustWar.”
His remarks came hours after the US president, Donald Trump, said on his platform Truth Social that Washington would suspend military action against Iran for two weeks, contingent on Tehran agreeing to the “complete, immediate and safe opening” of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump described the arrangement as a “double-sided ceasefire,” asserting that the United States had already met its military objectives and was nearing a broader agreement aimed at long-term stability in the Middle East.
CM Omar’s comments reflected skepticism toward those claims, framing the conflict as both unnecessary and inconclusive.
In a separate moment that drew local attention, the chief minister was seen on a morning run in the Bishnah area of Jammu.
Accompanied by a small security detail in running attire, he passed through the area with minimal fanfare, surprising residents and briefly shifting the focus from geopolitics to his well-known enthusiasm for fitness.
