The government has dismissed a government orderly from service over his involvement in a 2017 narcotics case, saying his continued association with the government was detrimental to the public interest.
Financial Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, Jal Shakti Department, Shaleen Kabra issued the dismissal order on Monday against Vimal Kumar, an orderly with the Irrigation and Flood Control Division in Poonch. Kumar had been under suspension since May 2017.
The action followed acceptance of an inquiry report into an FIR registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Poonch police station in 2017.
According to the government order, police recovered 4.470 kg of poppy straw from Kumar’s possession in April 2017.
He was arrested and remained in judicial custody for 74 days.
Kumar denied the charges during the departmental inquiry.
The inquiry officer examined the FIR, his defence statement and other records before concluding that the allegations were serious and that his conduct was inconsistent with the standards expected of a government employee.
The department said his involvement in illegal narcotics-related activities constituted conduct unbecoming of a government servant and violated the applicable conduct rules.
Following consideration of the inquiry report and related records, the competent authority approved his dismissal with immediate effect.
