About 97,500 students appeared for the first day of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education’s Class 10 examinations on Monday across Kashmir and the winter-zone areas of Jammu division, officials said.
The examinations were conducted at 1,003 centres, with students interviewed after the first paper describing the question paper as manageable and praising the arrangements made by the authorities.
“The question paper was easy; besides, the examination staff was also supportive,” one student told reporters after leaving an examination centre.
JKBOSE Chairman Ghulam Hassan Sheikh visited several centres to review the conduct of the examinations and facilities for students.
He said students were able to write their papers comfortably, adding that performance would depend on individual preparation and effort.
Sheikh said special arrangements had been made for students with disabilities, who receive concessions under the rules, including an additional 20 minutes.
He said the board sought to ensure that students with special needs could take the examinations with appropriate support.
Several students said preparation and time management were important to avoiding examination stress.
Others said the questions were drawn from the prescribed textbooks.
One student said a practice paper provided by the coaching institute Physics Wallah had helped with preparation, claiming that the examination paper closely matched it.
The board’s visits to examination centres were intended to monitor arrangements and ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations, officials said.
