A 12-year-old boy died on Monday after a mini load carrier skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge near Barmuji in the Neel area of Ramban district, sources said.
The vehicle, JK19A-1612, was travelling in the area when the accident occurred, they said.
The boy sustained critical injuries and was taken to the Sub-District Hospital in Banihal, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
He was identified as Rivzan Ahmed Bhat, son of Abdul Rasheed Bhat of Gogwani village in the Neel area.
Police took custody of the body and handed it over to the family after completing medico-legal formalities.
Sources said the driver allegedly fled the scene after the accident.
Further details about the circumstances of the crash and the driver’s whereabouts were not immediately available.
The death prompted grief in Gogwani and neighbouring areas.
