Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday described young people as the nation’s greatest strength, saying their talent and energy would play a key role in the region’s development.

Addressing a felicitation ceremony for winners of the ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ cycling event, Sinha praised the participants for their enthusiasm, determination and aspirations, saying the initiative reflected the confidence and optimism of a changing Jammu and Kashmir.

He also commended the Jammu and Kashmir Police for extending their role beyond security and law enforcement through community outreach and youth engagement programmes.

Initiatives such as ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ demonstrated how the police could combine security with compassion, discipline with inspiration and public duty with social commitment, Sinha said.

He said the achievements of the cyclists reflected the potential of young people to contribute to inclusive growth and national development.

The Lieutenant Governor said police-led civic action programmes had created opportunities for youth participation, skill development and sporting excellence, helping build confidence and encouraging constructive engagement in society.

“The story of J&K is no longer confined to the challenges of the past, but it is also the story of the efforts of the present and the possibilities of the future,” he said.

Sinha said Jammu and Kashmir was emerging as a region of opportunities, with young people making progress in sports, education, innovation and entrepreneurship.

He said the true development of any region depended on providing young people with opportunities, confidence and a sense of unity.

The Lieutenant Governor also cited initiatives such as ‘Jashn-e-Dal’, saying sporting and community programmes helped instil discipline, perseverance and resilience.

He urged citizens to embrace knowledge, innovation and positive ideas to contribute to the region’s progress.

Sinha reiterated the need to build a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir, calling on society to support and rehabilitate people affected by substance abuse with empathy and care.

He urged all sections of society to work together for peace, development and a healthy and secure Jammu and Kashmir.

Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Special Director General Coordination S.J.M. Gillani, Commandant General Home Guards Abdul Ghani Mir, ADGP Armed Nitish Kumar, BSF ADG Ashok Yadav, Director Fire and Emergency Services Alok Kumar and other senior police and civil administration officials attended the ceremony, along with members of cycling associations.
