A traffic police head constable was killed after being hit by a truck while on duty near Shampora Bridge in Qazigund in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday, officials said.
The officer was identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Kulpora village in Kulgam.
Bhat was struck by a truck near the bridge while performing traffic duty, an official said. The vehicle reportedly lost control before hitting him.
Bhat sustained serious injuries and died at the scene, the official said.
Police reached the spot and began proceedings to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Senior traffic and police officers later attended Bhat’s funeral in his native village and paid their respects to his family, colleagues, and residents.
