The President of India has appointed senior judicial officer Yash Paul Bourney as a judge of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, the Law Ministry said on Saturday.
The appointment followed approval by the Supreme Court Collegium on September 10, according to the source material.
Bourney, a District and Sessions Judge in the Super Time Scale, has nearly three decades of judicial experience and has served in several judicial positions in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
He joined the judiciary as a Munsiff and Civil Judge in Billawar in 1996 and was promoted to District and Sessions Judge in 2011.
During his career, he served as District Mobile Magistrate (Traffic), Sub Judge, Chief Judicial Magistrate in Jammu and Srinagar, Principal District Judge in Leh and Special Judge Anti-Corruption.
As Special Judge Anti-Corruption, he handled cases involving corruption, organised crime and alleged land grabbing.
He also presided over the trial of the BOPEE medical admission scam involving 54 accused; his service profile records convictions of 44 accused.
Bourney also served as a member secretary of the State Legal Services Authority and as Director of the Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Academy.
At the Judicial Academy, he worked on infrastructure and training and prepared a training module for 69 newly selected civil judges.
