Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that his government was working to expand employment opportunities as he handed out more than 51,000 appointment letters at the 20th Rozgar Mela.
The appointments were made across 45 locations through video conferencing. In Jammu, 132 candidates from Jammu and Kashmir, including 25 women, received appointment letters at a separate ceremony.
Modi said economic growth, higher investment and the expansion of new industries were important to creating jobs.
The government said the 20th edition brought the cumulative number of appointment letters distributed through Rozgar Melas to about 1.275 million.
He highlighted free-trade agreements, skills programmes and the growth of India’s startup sector as areas creating new opportunities for young people.
Modi also referred to the government’s proposed employment incentive programme, under which first-time employees and employers creating new jobs would receive financial incentives, according to his remarks cited in the source material.
He urged new government recruits to simplify administrative processes, adopt new technologies and remove bureaucratic hurdles that can impede investment and innovation.
In Jammu, Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey handed over the appointment letters to the 132 J&K candidates.
Dubey urged the recruits to contribute to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and the country and encouraged young people to pursue entrepreneurship alongside formal employment.
