The Srinagar-Jammu highway remained open for two-way traffic on Tuesday, though movement was slow at several stretches due to road conditions and vehicle breakdowns, officials said.
Authorities said both Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles were allowed to ply along the highway, and subject to favourable weather and road conditions, two-way traffic would continue on Wednesday.
Traffic congestion was reported between Maroog and Kishtwari Pather along the Ramban-Banihal sector, where single-lane stretches and the breakdown of two heavy vehicles slowed movement.
Despite the delays, hundreds of vehicles crossed through the Chenani-Nashri and Banihal-Qazigund tunnels during the day, officials said.
In a traffic advisory, authorities urged commuters to plan travel during daylight hours and avoid night journeys due to the risk of landslides and falling rocks, particularly in vulnerable stretches between Ramban and Banihal where construction work is ongoing.
Drivers were also advised to maintain lane discipline and avoid overtaking or driving on the wrong side, which officials said often leads to traffic jams on the highway.
Traffic Police, along with local law enforcement and highway patrol units, were deployed at key destinations to regulate movement and ensure safety.
Authorities advised travellers to check the latest traffic updates before starting their journeys.
