India’s Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Jitendra Singh, on Tuesday visited a government hospital in Udhampur district to review treatment being provided to people injured in a bus accident a day earlier, officials said.

Singh visited Government Medical College (GMC) in Udhampur, where several of the injured from the April 20 accident near Ramnagar are undergoing treatment.

He was accompanied by local legislators, senior district officials and medical staff during his inspection of intensive care and orthopaedic wards.

The minister met patients and enquired about their condition, assuring them of all possible assistance.

Speaking to reporters later, Singh said emergency services responded swiftly after the accident, with the army among the first to reach the site and assist in rescue operations.

He said he began monitoring the situation within minutes of the incident and remained in contact with local authorities to ensure coordination of relief efforts.

The injured were evacuated promptly to nearby hospitals, and a helicopter was deployed within about 30 minutes, he said.

Singh said most patients admitted to GMC Udhampur were in stable condition, while a few remained under close observation.

Two critically injured patients had been referred to Government Medical College in Jammu for advanced treatment.

He said that Army medical facilities would conduct specialised diagnostic tests, including MRI scans, for patients with neurological complications.

The minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed condolences over the incident and announced ex-gratia relief for the victims.

Singh also announced that a critical care ambulance would be provided to Udhampur under a parliamentary development fund to strengthen emergency medical response in the area.
