The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic on Friday, with authorities allowing movement of both Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles in both directions, subject to weather and road conditions.
Traffic officials said similar arrangements were likely to continue on Saturday if conditions remain stable.
Despite the reopening, traffic flow remained slow, particularly along the Ramban-Banihal stretch, where ongoing construction between Nashri and Banihal has narrowed road sections and created bottlenecks.
Officials said vehicle breakdowns and the movement of nomadic herders with livestock along the route contributed to intermittent congestion.
The highway, a key link connecting Kashmir with the rest of India, had faced disruptions earlier in the week due to landslides and adverse weather, though traffic has since resumed in both directions.
Hundreds of passenger vehicles, including private cars and buses, crossed the route during the day, while goods carriers moved more slowly due to congestion.
Authorities advised commuters to travel during daylight hours and avoid night journeys, citing risks such as landslides, falling rocks and ongoing construction work along vulnerable stretches.
