Filmmakers, cinematographers, producers, curators and educators from India and abroad will take part in the inaugural International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir, organisers said.
Director and producer Ramesh Sippy, known for the film Sholay, and Kashmir-born filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, known for films including 3 Idiots, PK and Mission Kashmir, are among the special guests expected at the festival.
The festival’s jury includes Indian cinematographer and filmmaker Santosh Sivan, German filmmaker and curator Dorothee Wenner, Japanese media entrepreneur and documentary producer Keiko Bang, and National Film Award-winning filmmaker and educator Himansu Sekhar Khatua.
Sivan, a founding member of the Indian Society of Cinematographers and a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, has worked as a cinematographer, filmmaker, and producer and received the Pierre Angénieux Tribute at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024.
Wenner has been associated with the Berlin International Film Festival since 1990 and has worked as a programmer and international film curator, with a focus on India, Africa and Germany.
Bang, founder and chief executive of Bang Singapore, has produced more than 50 documentaries and has worked on international co-productions across Asia.
Khatua, an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, has directed films including Shunya Swaropa and Ishanu and previously served as director of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute.
The festival, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Department of Information and Public Relations, is intended to provide a platform for established and emerging filmmakers and strengthen the region’s links with the international film community.
