Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned on Sunday that the “weaponisation” of technology and critical minerals could threaten shared prosperity and urged BRICS countries to strengthen cooperation to tackle global economic and geopolitical challenges.
Speaking at the conclusion of the two-day BRICS summit in New Delhi, Modi said rising conflicts, pandemics, climate disasters and supply-chain disruptions showed that crises could quickly affect countries far beyond their point of origin.
“The weaponisation of technology and critical minerals can hinder our shared progress,” Modi said, calling for greater inclusivity in the adoption of technology.
He said BRICS countries had agreed on an integrated early-warning system for infectious diseases and guidelines for sharing data on disaster management.
The grouping had also advanced a logistics supply-chain cooperation framework aimed at making supply chains more reliable and resilient, Modi said.
On innovation, he highlighted a BRICS Incubator Network designed to connect start-ups and incubators and a proposed BRICS Startup Innovation Fund.
A BRICS digital agriculture network would link artificial intelligence, geospatial technology and digital public infrastructure with farmers’ needs, he said.
Modi said India’s BRICS presidency had focused on four pillars — resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability – and sought to involve entrepreneurs, farmers, researchers, women, young people and ordinary citizens in the grouping’s work.
Through BRICS CONNECT, the bloc had promoted skills, employability, women’s participation in the workforce, social security and capacity building, he said.
The summit took place against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war, the West Asia crisis, including tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, and trade and tariff policies pursued by the Trump administration.
BRICS originally comprised Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia joined in 2024, while Indonesia joined in 2025, according to the supplied report.
