Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that BRICS had emerged as a platform for the Global South to have a greater say in shaping international solutions, with developing countries gaining confidence because their concerns were being addressed collectively.

“Within BRICS, their voices are heard. Their experiences are respected. And solutions are developed not for them, but together with them,” Modi said.

He said the strength of the grouping lay in its diversity and ability to cooperate despite member countries being rooted in different economic and political realities.

Modi said India had initiated a BRICS MSME Cooperation Portal to connect small businesses with knowledge, finance and new markets. A BRICS Urban Mobility Hub had also been established to allow cities to share best practices, he said.

The prime minister said solutions developed within BRICS should be adaptable and accessible to countries across the wider Global South rather than remaining confined to the bloc.

He also linked India’s approach to development with its traditional emphasis on environmental protection, saying economic development and environmental sustainability were complementary.

Modi said BRICS had made progress in clean energy, agriculture and climate adaptation, including through a Digital Centre of Excellence for smart grids and energy storage and centres focused on agro-ecology and regenerative agriculture.

He said indigenous knowledge could contribute to climate adaptation and that BRICS cooperation should promote inclusive growth beyond its membership.

“May our diversity remain our identity, our cooperation become our inspiration, and our progress serve the cause of all humanity,” Modi said.
