A joint parliamentary committee is expected to visit Jammu and Kashmir to assess the union territory’s public food distribution system and grain storage infrastructure, MP Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan said on Monday.
Ramzan extended the invitation during a meeting of the parliamentary panel in Chandigarh, where development issues concerning Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh were reviewed.
He highlighted infrastructure and connectivity challenges in Jammu and Kashmir and called for greater institutional support for the union territory.
Ramzan invited members of the committee and senior central government officials to visit Srinagar and Jammu for an on-ground assessment of the functioning of the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) system and foodgrain storage and distribution arrangements.
Committee members and officials accepted the invitation and expressed willingness to visit the union territory, he said.
The date and programme for the proposed visit will be finalised separately.
Senior officials from the central government, Punjab, Haryana and the Chandigarh administration attended Monday’s meeting.
