Opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir are preparing to challenge the government over unemployment, outsourcing and unfulfilled election promises when the Legislative Assembly begins a 10-day autumn session on September 21.
The BJP, the main opposition party, said it would raise issues including alleged irregularities in outsourcing, corruption, delays in local body elections and the government’s failure to deliver on commitments made during the 2024 election campaign.
“We will raise the issues about the public in the Assembly,” BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur told reporters.
He cited the promise of 200 units of free electricity and alleged that development activity had slowed since the elections.
PDP legislator Waheed Para said his party would focus on unemployment, outsourcing, reservations and the regularisation of daily wagers, while also pressing the government on its electoral commitments.
The ruling National Conference said it would present its record in government and defend its progress on the promises made to voters.
“We do not claim that we have done everything, but we certainly are on the way to fulfil them,” NC spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said, urging the opposition to play a responsible role.
According to the provisional calendar issued by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, the session will open with obituary references on September 21, followed by government business the next day.
Private members’ bills are scheduled for September 24 and September 28, while private members’ resolutions will be taken up on September 25.
Government business is scheduled for September 29 and 30.
