Ruling National Conference held a meeting of its legislators and allied members on Sunday to coordinate its approach ahead of the legislative assembly’s autumn session.
Party president Farooq Abdullah chaired the meeting, which was attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, NC General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Chief Whip Mubarak Gul and other legislators.
Congress lawmakers, a CPI(M) representative and independent legislators supporting the government also attended.
Farooq Abdullah urged lawmakers to prioritise issues affecting their constituencies and use the Assembly to seek answers from the government and discuss matters of public interest.
NC chief spokesman Tanvir Sadiq said the meeting discussed issues to be raised during the session and how legislators would conduct themselves in the House.
Sadiq said Congress lawmakers first attended a joint meeting with NC and supporting independent legislators, followed by a separate meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
“There were detailed discussions on how to conduct ourselves in the House and how to raise the issues of the people,” Sadiq said.
He said Congress leader Tariq Hamid Karra and other Congress legislators attended both meetings, adding that the alliance remained intact.
The BJP and PDP are expected to raise issues including unemployment, electricity tariffs, reservation and governance during the session, which begins on Monday.
