The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will begin its autumn session on Monday, with the Opposition set to raise issues including unemployment, electricity tariffs, reservation and public services.
The seven-sitting session will run from September 21 to September 30, according to the provisional calendar. The House will have four days of government business, two for private members’ bills and one for private members’ resolutions.
The Assembly Secretariat has received about 650 questions, along with 16-17 private members’ bills and nearly 50 private members’ resolutions.
Monday’s sitting will begin with obituary references to former ministers Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Dharam Paul and Ghulam Hassan Khan, followed by Question Hour.
The House Committee report on alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Jammu and Kashmir is also scheduled to be tabled.
The committee, headed by former High Court judge Hasnain Masoodi, was constituted in April 2025.
The government is also scheduled to introduce legislation amending the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989, and repealing the Jammu and Kashmir Self Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999.
Other proposed government legislation includes amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Goods and Services Tax Act and the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act, as well as legislation aimed at simplifying business approvals.
National Conference chief spokesman Tanvir Sadiq said the government was prepared to respond to issues raised by the Opposition.
Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma said the BJP would focus on electricity and water supply, staffing shortages in schools and hospitals, roads and other public services.
PDP MLA Waheed Para said his party would raise unemployment, electricity tariffs and reservation.
The session will also include private members’ business later in the week, with government business scheduled for September 29 and 30.
