Medical education programme in Kashmir focuses on tuberculosis control

A Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on tuberculosis was held at SKIMS Medical College in Bemina, Srinagar, aimed at strengthening capacity among healthcare professionals in the region, officials said.

The event was organised by the State Tuberculosis Cell under the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir in collaboration with a diagnostics firm, bringing together doctors, public health experts and programme officials from across the Kashmir division.

Senior health officials and faculty members attended the programme, which focused on improving diagnosis, treatment and management of tuberculosis, as well as progress under national disease control initiatives.

Speakers highlighted the importance of early detection, preventive therapy and research in efforts to eliminate tuberculosis, while presentations covered epidemiological trends and updates under the National TB Elimination Programme.

Experts also discussed advances in diagnostic technologies and approaches to managing both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant forms of the disease.

Officials said the programme was part of ongoing efforts to enhance knowledge and coordination among healthcare providers in tackling tuberculosis.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening public health measures aimed at eliminating the disease in Jammu and Kashmir, they said.
