Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday told newly appointed police officers to protect the innocent, pursue the guilty and exercise their authority with integrity.
LG Sinha handed appointment letters to 29 officers selected for the Jammu and Kashmir Police Gazetted Service and urged them to combine authority with compassion.
“The respect commanded by the uniform depends on the honesty, courage and conduct of the officers who wear it,” he said.
He said the officers would face challenges including terrorism, radicalisation and new forms of terror financing involving cryptocurrency and money laundering.
Sinha also urged them to uphold the rule of law, protect vulnerable people and work towards a fear-free environment.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and other senior civil and police officials attended the ceremony.
