Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday flagged off the Harmukh-Gangbal Yatra and said a religious yatra could promote social harmony and greater awareness of environmental protection.
Sinha described the yatra as a link between the region’s cultural past and present, citing references to Mount Harmukh and Gangbal Lake in historical and religious texts.
He urged the yatra and organisers to protect the Himalayan environment amid climate change and other ecological challenges.
The Lieutenant Governor also called for participation in cleanliness drives, blood donation, health camps, tree plantation, and youth programmes.
Members of Parliament and the Legislative Assembly, senior civil and police officials, religious leaders and devotees attended the flag-off ceremony.
