Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday directed officials to provide immediate relief to families affected by a cloudburst that triggered flash floods in Doda district and to expedite efforts to restore damaged infrastructure.

LG Sinha said he reviewed the situation with Doda Deputy Commissioner Krishan Lal after torrential rain caused extensive damage in Thathri town overnight.

According to the administration, the cloudburst damaged several residential houses and commercial establishments, while debris and landslides disrupted movement on National Highway-244, the main road connecting Doda and Kishtwar districts.

Authorities said there were no fatalities in the incident, although one woman sustained injuries.

In a statement posted on social media, Sinha said he had directed district authorities to ensure prompt assistance for affected residents and accelerate restoration work.

He also instructed officials to prioritise reopening the blocked highway to restore connectivity to the region.

Rescue teams comprising district officials, police personnel and other emergency agencies have been deployed to clear debris, assess losses and provide relief to affected families.

Officials said a detailed damage assessment is underway and compensation will be provided under existing government norms once the survey is completed.

The administration has also advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert as intermittent rainfall continues across the Chenab Valley, increasing the risk of further landslides and flash floods.
