Chief of Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth on Tuesday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir during separate meetings with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his first high-level engagements in the Union Territory since taking over as army chief.

General Seth met Sinha at the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar, where the two reviewed the prevailing security scenario in the region, officials said.

The army chief was accompanied by General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, Lieutenant General Balbir Singh, along with other senior military officers.

Although officials did not disclose details of the discussions, the meeting comes amid heightened security operations across Jammu and Kashmir following months of intensified counter-insurgency measures and increased focus on anti-infiltration efforts along the Line of Control.

General Seth later called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at his official residence in Srinagar in what officials described as a courtesy meeting following his appointment as Chief of Army Staff on June 30.

Abdullah congratulated the army chief on assuming the country’s highest military office and wished him success in his new responsibilities.

The meetings marked General Seth’s first formal interaction with the J&K’s top civil leadership since taking charge of the Indian Army.

Jammu and Kashmir remains one of the country’s most security-sensitive regions, with the Army continuing to play a central role in counter-insurgency operations alongside the police and central armed forces.
