Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday directed officials to ensure comprehensive security, traffic management and public services for the upcoming Muharram observances and the annual Amarnath pilgrimage, two major events expected to draw large public participation across J&K.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, LG Sinha instructed departments to work in close coordination to guarantee smooth movement of religious processions and pilgrims while maintaining law and order.
“All arrangements should be made with utmost sensitivity and efficiency,” he said, directing senior officers to remain available on the ground for real-time monitoring and prompt resolution of public grievances.
The Lieutenant Governor reviewed preparations related to electricity, drinking water supply, sanitation, healthcare and emergency response services along designated routes. He instructed officials to ensure the availability of ambulances, medical teams and fire and emergency services at key locations.
The annual Amarnath Yatra, one of Hinduism’s most significant pilgrimages, attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees to the Himalayan cave shrine each year, while Muharram processions draw large gatherings across Jammu and Kashmir.
LG Sinha also directed traffic authorities to implement a detailed management plan to minimise disruptions and facilitate smooth movement of residents, pilgrims and Muharram processions.
The Inspector General of Police (Traffic) was asked to strengthen coordination with field officers and stakeholder agencies and to intensify public awareness campaigns regarding traffic advisories, standard operating procedures and movement schedules.
The Lieutenant Governor further ordered an increase in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card counters for Amarnath pilgrims to streamline registration and movement processes.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg briefed the meeting on arrangements made by various departments, while senior civil and police officials reviewed preparedness measures across districts.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and other senior administrative and security officials.
