Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday extended greetings to people on the occasion of Janmashtami, which will be celebrated on September 4.
LG Sinha said the festival and the teachings associated with lord Krishna carried a universal message of righteousness and duty.
“On the joyous occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all,” Sinha said in a statement.
He said the teachings of lord Krishna encouraged people to perform their duties without attachment to the outcome and expressed hope that the festival would bring peace, prosperity and happiness.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also extended greetings to the people of J&K.
He said Janmashtami symbolised the triumph of righteousness, truth, and compassion over evil.
Abdullah expressed hope that the festival would strengthen communal harmony, brotherhood and mutual respect among people in the union territory.
He also prayed for peace, prosperity, and happiness and said the occasion should strengthen the spirit of unity and harmony in society.
