University of Kashmir on Thursday marked World Book and Copyright Day with an event promoting reading culture and the ethical use of digital tools, while also launching an artificial intelligence-powered library chatbot.
The programme, organised by the Allama Iqbal Library, focused on encouraging student engagement with books and library resources, alongside discussions on plagiarism and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in academic settings.
During the event, the university unveiled the AIL chatbot, a digital assistant designed to help users access information on library services, resource availability and facilities.
The tool includes chat and call features, and was demonstrated live.
Vice Chancellor Nilofer Khan said reading remained central to academic life even as digital platforms transform access to knowledge, adding that such initiatives help integrate traditional and technology-driven learning.
Dean Academic Affairs Shariefuddin Pirzada highlighted the evolving role of libraries and the need to adapt to changing learning environments.
Librarian Fayaz Ahmad Lone said efforts were underway to modernise services and promote reading within the university.
An AIL newsletter was released at the event, and students with high reading engagement, along with top users of the library’s electronic resources, were felicitated, officials said.
