Srinagar, Aug 1
Security forces have stepped up counter-militancy measures across Kashmir following the killing of two migrant workers in Kulgam, establishing additional checkpoints and intensifying searches and surveillance.
The heightened security measures followed Friday’s attack in Kilam village, where two brick kiln workers from Chhattisgarh were shot at close range. One died at the scene and the other, Bhupinder, died in a Srinagar hospital on Saturday.
Security officials said deployments had been strengthened across south, central and north Kashmir, with police, the Army and Central Armed Police Forces maintaining heightened vigilance at vulnerable locations.
Additional checkpoints have been established on highways and major roads, while frisking and vehicle checks have been intensified, particularly in Srinagar and south Kashmir.
Security agencies have also launched searches based on intelligence inputs and increased monitoring of suspected overground workers and other elements considered linked to militant networks.
The measures followed directions from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intensify operations against those responsible for the attack.
Officials said the search operation in and around Kilam would continue, while security forces remained on heightened alert across the Valley.
