Jammu and Kashmir recorded a sharp decline in several indicators of militancy and violence between 2018 and 2025, according to figures cited by NITI Aayog.
Stone-pelting incidents fell by 98.6 percent to 25 in 2025 from 1767 in 2018, while youth recruitment into militancy declined by about 99 percent to two cases from 199, the figures showed.
Militant-initiated incidents fell to 12 in 2025 from 228 in 2018, a decline of nearly 95 percent.
Counter-militancy operations and encounters dropped 82.5 percent, from 189 to 33 over the same period.
The number of militants killed fell from 257 in 2018 to 34 in 2025, while security personnel killed in terrorist incidents and encounters declined from 91 to 16.
Civilian deaths in militant incidents or encounters fell from 55 to 28, a decline of 49.1 percent.
At the same time, arrests of militant associates or suspects increased from 105 in 2018 to 143 in 2025, a rise of 36.2 percent, the data showed.
Ceasefire violations also declined, from 382 in 2018 to 193 in 2025, a reduction of 49.5 percent.
The NITI Aayog figures also detailed the administrative response to Operation Sindoor in May 2025, following shelling along the Line of Control between May 7 and 10.
Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu, Baramulla, and Kupwara were identified as severely affected districts.
Authorities evacuated 3.26 lakh people and established 397 relief centres, where 15,293 people were accommodated, according to the figures.
Health services were activated and 394 ambulances mobilised, while 2818 Civil Defence volunteers were deployed.
Authorities also activated 9701 bunkers and took measures to protect infrastructure, maintain supplies and prevent hoarding.
The shelling resulted in 19 deaths and 127 injuries.
The government provided Rs 3.59 crore in relief to victims and made 15 compassionate appointments for next of kin.
A total of 2069 residential structures suffered major damage, with Rs 3.17 crore distributed as relief for damaged properties.
An additional Rs 20.86 crore was disbursed as compensation for damaged residential houses.
