BJP national vice president Ram Madhav on Tuesday described the National Conference’s internal political crisis as its own matter but made remarks suggesting that the party’s divisions had become publicly evident following Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah’s decision to quit the organisation and Parliament.
Madhav, who was visiting Jammu, was addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar when he was asked about the NC’s internal differences, speculation over the stability of its government and Ruhullah’s announcement.
He initially declined to comment, saying the developments were an internal matter of the National Conference.
“Whatever is happening in the National Conference, it is their internal affair. I will not comment on that,” he said.
However, responding to further questions about BJP legislators predicting the NC’s disintegration and Ruhullah’s decision to sever ties with the party, Madhav made remarks that appeared to suggest political support for the MP.
“I will not comment on it but the National Conference has disintegrated itself today in front of everyone. Unqualified and heartfelt blessings of our people have always been there. That’s why Ruhullah Sahib is holding another rally. However, I reiterate that we have no role in NC’s internal affairs,” he said.
Madhav insisted that statements made by BJP legislators about the possible collapse of the NC government should not be linked to the party’s position on Ruhullah’s resignation.
“Our MLAs’ statements should not be mixed up with it. Whatever they have said is another issue. Present upheaval is NC’s internal matter. They are fighting amongst themselves. Even today one of their MPs is holding a rally. That is their internal matter. What is our link with that?” he asked.
At the beginning of the press conference, Madhav had also sought to distance his visit from speculation that the BJP was assessing the possibility of forming a government in Jammu and Kashmir amid the NC’s internal turmoil.
“Mind it, I am not going to respond to the question dominating your minds,” he told reporters.
Asked about the possible political consequences of the developments, he declined to make predictions.
“Bridges are crossed when one reaches there,” he said.
Madhav’s remarks came as Ruhullah announced his resignation from the NC and the Lok Sabha at a gathering in Budgam, launching a scathing attack on party president Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The BJP leader maintained that the party had no involvement in the NC’s internal dispute.
