Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Saturday reviewed counterinsurgency operations in south Kashmir during a high-level security meeting attended by senior police, army and intelligence officials, sources familiar with the matter said.

The meeting, held in south Kashmir, was attended by the General Officer Commanding of the Indian Army’s XV Corps, the Inspector General of Police for Kashmir, senior Rashtriya Rifles officers and representatives of intelligence and paramilitary agencies, the sources said.

Discussions focused on the security situation in the districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam, where security forces have intensified anti-militancy operations in recent months.

Officials reviewed ongoing counterterrorism operations, intelligence coordination and area domination exercises aimed at preventing militants from regrouping in the region, the sources said.

Senior officers briefed the meeting on militant activity, infiltration attempts and the operational preparedness of security forces ahead of the summer season, when movement across the region typically increases.

The meeting also discussed strengthening local intelligence networks, enhancing surveillance in vulnerable areas and maintaining coordination among multiple security agencies operating in Kashmir.

Officials stressed the need for sustained operations against what authorities describe as the residual militant ecosystem and overground worker networks that support insurgent groups.

Indian security forces have maintained heightened vigil along infiltration routes and in hinterland areas amid concerns about attempts by militants to disrupt stability in the region.

The officers also reviewed security arrangements for upcoming public events and movement along major highways, while emphasising the need for maintaining what officials described as a people-friendly approach alongside strong security measures.

Prabhat appreciated coordination between the police, army and paramilitary forces and directed field officers to maintain a high level of alertness and continue intelligence-based operations, the sources said.
