Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday welcomed the approval of investment plans worth Rs 475.41 crore to upgrade industrial training institutes across the Union Territory under the Centre’s PM-SETU scheme.
Abdullah thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Jayant Chaudhary for approving the Strategic Investment Plans, which cover clusters in Jammu and Srinagar.
The Jammu cluster has been allocated Rs 240 crore, with ITI Jammu serving as the hub and institutes in R S Pura, Nowshera, Samba and Kathua functioning as associated centres.
The Srinagar cluster will receive Rs 235.41 crore. ITI Srinagar will serve as its hub, supported by institutes in Ganderbal, Kangan, Budgam and Charar-e-Sharief.
The projects will follow a hub-and-spoke model aimed at modernising training infrastructure, introducing updated courses and aligning curricula with changing industry requirements.
Abdullah said the investment would strengthen links between training institutes and industry, improve vocational education and help young people acquire skills suited to employment opportunities in domestic and international markets.
He said the upgraded institutes would also support entrepreneurship and improve access to livelihoods across Jammu and Kashmir.
