The Jammu Railway Division has established a special Tourist Facilitation Centre at Srinagar railway station ahead of the summer holiday season, aiming to assist visitors expected to arrive in large numbers in the Kashmir Valley, railway officials said on Thursday.
According to railway authorities, the facility has been set up to provide tourists with information related to travel, sightseeing destinations, local transportation and other services under one roof.
“It is often observed that first-time visitors to Kashmir face difficulties in obtaining information regarding local travel and sightseeing destinations,” Raghvender Singh, Public Relations Inspector of the Jammu Railway Division, said in a statement.
He said trained personnel stationed at the counters would guide passengers about tourist attractions, transportation options and essential services available in the region.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the initiative aimed to improve the overall travel experience for visitors arriving in Kashmir.
“Our goal is not merely to transport passengers to their destination but to make their entire journey a memorable one,” Singhal said.
He added that the facilitation centres would help create a sense of safety and convenience for tourists and could also contribute to the growth of tourism in Kashmir.
Railway officials said the project would additionally serve as a source of non-fare revenue for the railway administration while expanding passenger services at Srinagar station.
