A fire broke out at a garment showroom in Jammu city on Tuesday, destroying goods worth hundreds of thousands of rupees, officials said.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the scene at City Chowk and brought the blaze under control with assistance from police and local residents.

Officials said readymade garments stored in the showroom and its stock area were extensively damaged in the fire.

No casualties were reported, they added.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, with authorities examining whether it was triggered by an electrical short circuit or an air-conditioning unit malfunction, police said.
