Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary accused the BJP on Monday of disrupting the opening day of the legislative assembly session to divert attention from issues including alleged irregularities in the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Choudhary described the BJP protest as “nautanki” and said opposition lawmakers should have used Question Hour, Zero Hour and resolutions to raise public concerns.
“The BJP did a drama today. They did not want the Assembly to run smoothly,” he told reporters outside the House.
BJP legislators protested over daily wagers, electricity, water, schools, roads and healthcare, but several questions listed for Question Hour were not taken up because of the disruption, Choudhary said.
He alleged that the BJP deliberately created a disturbance as a House committee report on the Jal Jeevan Mission was being presented.
“If you want a CBI inquiry, who stopped you from speaking in the Assembly?” he said, referring to BJP demands for investigation.
On daily wagers, Choudhary said the government was committed to regularisation but that any such move had to be accompanied by a mechanism to ensure salaries.
He also questioned why the issue had not been resolved during the previous BJP-PDP government.
Choudhary urged opposition lawmakers to use the remaining days of the short session to raise issues through legislative procedures rather than disrupt proceedings.
